In this article, American researches, theories and models on women's identity formation from the women's perspective were introduced and discussed with Josselson, Gilligan, Miller and Downing as the central theories. The common characteristics of their theories and model were drawn as follows. ① Women give importance to human relation and tend to form their ego-identity, compare with men give importance to academic works and jobs. ② Women give importance to attachment-mutuality in ego-identity formation, compare with men give importance to separation-individuation in it. ③ Men tend to achieve the intimateness after achieving ego-identity, compare with women tend to achieve both psycho-social tasks simultaneously. Finally, the possibility of application for Korean women was discussed and suggested.
