This study tries to find the associations between the elderly's socioeconmic factors and their housing characteristics, such as conventional(inconvenient) kitchen, squat toilet, and lacking hot water supply system. In order to achieve this study goal, the study utilizes “2008 National Data on the Elderly.” The data were analyzed by statistical methods using descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis.
The study first investigates the current situations of housing characteristics of elderly living in Daegu and Gyungbuk. More elderly people in Daegu and Gyungbuk are living in poor housing than those living in other areas. This means that the elderly in Daegu and Gyungbuk are living in the house which lacks hot water supply system, modernized kitchen and toilet. This study also finds that elderly's major socioecomonic fators are significantly associated with the level of housing problems. First, gender, family types, monthly income are related with the possibilities with living in conventional kitchen. Second, gender, family type, educational level, monthly income, being urban residents are related with the possibilities with living in house with squat toilet and lacking hot water supply system.
