The number of foreigners living in Korea have exceeded 1.26 million on the last day of 2010. It has increased rapidly since the late 1980s. At that time Korea faced the shortage of manual workers in 3D sector.
International labor migration affects migrants themselves, source countries and host countries in economic respect. Migrants benefit from migration with increased wage and income. Source countries benefit also. In host countries low-skilled workers in competitive with immigrants face the decrease in wage and jobs, but firms employing immigrant workers reap more profits.
Government should select the proper immigration policy in consideration of the conflicting interests and national interests.
