This paper examines the comparative study of the Korea’s FTA with EU and USA. Korea-EU and Korea-USA FTA will provide Korea with a significant advantage in the region both economically and politically. The free trade pact between South Korea and the EU came into effect on July 1, 2011, ushering in a new era of expanded economic and political ties that can benefit all countries. Under the deal, Korea and the EU would eliminate or phase out tariffs on 96% of EU goods and 99% of Korean goods within three years after the accord takes effect. They have also agreed to abolish tariffs on most industrial goods within five years of the deal taking effect.
Under the Korea-US FTA, nearly 95% of bilateral trade in consumer and industrial products would become duty free within three years of the date the FTA enters into force, and most remaining tariffs would be eliminated within 10 years.
In this paper, Section Ⅱ analyses the key issues of the auto, fiber and clothing, agriculture of the Korea-EU FTA and Korea-USA FTA. Section Ⅲ examines the comparative study of the Korea’s FTA with EU and USA, focusing on IPRs, rule of origin, trade measures, and service sectors. Section Ⅳ examines the ISD issue. Finally, conclusions are provided in Section Ⅴ.
