Kim Jung Un has assumed the highest positions in the Army and the Party. This has completed the succession process in North Korea in 4 months. It is hard to expect any noticeable policy changes by Kim Jung Un. He will be likely to maintain the status quo like his father. Yet, economic crises have to be dealt with effectively to consolidate his power. Along with this burdensom task, regime survival depends on the resolution of the nuclear matters.
This paper considers external factors regarding economic crises and nuclear confrontation. These external factors should be carefully considered when we devise our unification policy since our foreign policy significantly affects environments surrounding North Korea.
