This study aimed to examine the impact of generative AI literacy and AI ethical awareness on clinical decision-making confidence among nursing students and to identify the mediating role of critical thinking disposition. The participants were 280 nursing students at a university located in W city, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. Data was collected from September 1 to September 20, 2025, using structured self-report questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, Baron & Kenny’s three-step mediation analysis, and the Sobel test via SPSS 26.0. The results indicated that generative AI literacy and AI ethical awareness had significant positive correlations with clinical decision-making confidence and critical thinking disposition. Furthermore, critical thinking disposition was found to partially mediate the relationship between generative AI literacy/ethical awareness and clinical decision-making confidence. These findings suggest that integrating critical thinking training with technical AI education is essential to enhance the clinical competency of future nurses in an AI-driven healthcare environment.
