Given that application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of child psychotherapy are expanded rapidly, this study aims to examine the current status of AI-related research in child psychotherapy in Korea and suggest future directions for research and clinical development. Utilizing a scoping review methodology, relevant studies published through 2025 were identified and analyzed. In total, the papers met the inclusion criteria for the final analysis in this study. The findings revealed that AI research in Korean child psychotherapy has grown steadily since 2020, with a particularly notable increase in 2025. The most frequent research subjects were children aged 7-12, and the research designs were diverse, encompassing experimental, quantitative, case-based, and qualitative studies. Regarding AI technology types, chatbots and image analysis (deep learning) were predominantly used, primarily within the domains of emotion regulation therapy, diagnosis, and assessment support. While these results reflect the diversification and specialization of AI applications, discussions pertaining to ethical considerations remained limited despite significant technological advancements. This study provides foundational insights into the current landscape of AI utilization in child psychotherapy in Korea. Furthermore, it emphasizes the necessity of establishing a framework rooted in ethical foundations and developmental perspectives to guide future research and clinical practice.
