    This paper presents an optimal design and performance comparison of two topology configurations for a dual three-phase (DTP) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with Halbach array magnetization. Two candidate topologies are investigated: Case 1, an asymmetric winding topology and a retained rotor back-yoke; and Case 2, a symmetric winding topology with the rotor back-yoke removed. The asymmetric topology offers a higher fundamental winding factor and torque ripple cancellation but requires the rotor back-yoke to suppress current harmonics caused by reduced inter-set leakage inductance. Each topology is optimized through Optimal Latin Hypercube Design, Kriging surrogate modeling, and genetic algorithm based optimization with efficiency maximization as the objective. Two-dimensional finite element analysis verification confirms that Case 1 outperforms Case 2 in torque ripple, and efficiency, demonstrating that the torque enhancement from the higher fundamental winding factor of the asymmetric topology outweighs the benefits of back-yoke removal. It is therefore concluded that the asymmetric DTP topology with a retained rotor back-yoke is the superior configuration for Halbach array DTP PMSMs.
