South Korea has entered a super-aged society while artificial intelligence (AI) services are rapidly becoming integrated into everyday life. However, how older adults translate access to these technologies into actual use and meaningful life outcomes remains insufficiently understood. Drawing on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Senior Technology Acceptance Model (STAM-14), this study examines the structural relationships among health satisfaction, digital self-efficacy, AI attitude, AI literacy, actual AI service use, post-use perceived usefulness, and life satisfaction. Data were obtained from the 2025 Digital Divide Survey conducted by the National Information Society Agency (NIA). Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was performed using responses from 668 adults aged 50 years or older who had prior experience using AI.
The results showed that health satisfaction and digital self-efficacy were positively associated with both AI attitude and AI literacy. AI literacy was significantly associated with AI service use, whereas the direct relationship between AI attitude and actual use was not significant. A significant indirect path from AI attitude to service use through AI literacy was also identified. In addition, AI service use was positively associated with both post-use perceived usefulness and life satisfaction, while post-use perceived usefulness was positively associated with life satisfaction. However, after conventional determinants of life satisfaction were taken into account, the additional explanatory contribution of the AI-related variables was small. These findings suggest that strengthening AI literacy and digital self-efficacy, rather than attitudinal factors alone, play a more central role in supporting meaningful AI use among older adults.
