This study examined the effects of the in-flight physical environment on economy-class passengers’ approach intention and investigated the moderating role of flight duration. The in-flight physical environment was conceptualized as three dimensions: ambient conditions, space and function, and technology. Technology was incorporated as an extended dimension of the traditional servicescape framework, reflecting the growing importance of digital in-flight services. Data were collected from 378 economy-class passengers and analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), structural equation modeling (SEM), and multi-group SEM. Passengers were classified into short-haul (n=234) and medium- and long-haul (n=144) groups based on the flight-duration categories used in the survey. The results showed that ambient conditions, space and function, and technology all had significant positive effects on approach intention. Although some perceptions of the in-flight physical environment differed between the two flight-duration groups, multi-group SEM revealed no significant differences in the structural relationships between the three environmental dimensions and approach intention. Thus, the moderating effect of flight duration was not supported. The findings indicate that the effects of these environmental dimensions remain stable across flight-duration groups, suggesting that passengers value a high-quality cabin environment regardless of flight length. This study extends the servicescape literature by identifying technology as an important dimension of the contemporary in-flight physical environment. The findings suggest that airlines should prioritize comfortable ambient conditions, functional cabin spaces, and technology-based services, such as in-flight entertainment, connectivity, and charging facilities. Furthermore, the absence of a significant moderating effect of flight duration highlights the importance of maintaining a consistently high-quality cabin environment across both short-haul and medium- and long-haul flights.
