Antimicrobial resistance in bacteria associated with aquaculture products is an increasing public health concern. This study investigated annual changes in the occurrence and resistance patterns of bacteria isolated from cultured whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) and rearing water in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, Korea from 2023 to 2025. A total of 410 isolates were recovered: 150 in 2023, 132 in 2024, and 128 in 2025. Escherichia coli accounted for 16, 30, and 24 isolates, with resistance rates (to at least one antimicrobial) of 6.3%, 26.7%, and 37.5% and multiple anti-biotic resistance rates of 0%, 16.7%, and 37.5%, respectively. Vibrio parahaemolyticus accounted for 123, 88, and 98 isolates and showed consistently high resistance rates of 100%, 98.9%, and 99.0%, whereas multiple antibiotic resistance rates were 82.1%, 36.4%, and 61.2%, respectively. All Enterococcus spp. isolates recovered in 2023 and 2024 exhibited resistance and multiple antibiotic resistance (100%). Six Staphylococcus aureus isolates (2025) showed resistance and multiple antibiotic resistance rates of 83.3% each. These findings reveal species- and year-dependent differences in bacterial occurrence and resistance, with persistently high levels of multiple antibiotic resistance in several bacterial groups, underscoring the need for continuous surveillance and management of antimicrobial resistance in aquaculture environments and seafood products.
