Two specimens of Bathytoshia lata (1,098 mm and 1,300 mm in disc width), belonging to the family Dasyatidae (Myliobatiformes), were collected from the waters off eastern and southern Jejudo Island, Korea in June 2025 and May 2026. This species was characterized by huge size (2,600 mm in maximum disc width), small eyes, plain greyish brown disc and having strong thorns on all surfaces of tail. This species is very similar to Bathytoshia centroura, but it differs in distribution, the latter occurring in the western Atlantic. B. lata is also similar to Bathytoshia brevicaudata, but it can be distinguished from the latter, which lacks strong thorns on all surfaces of tail. Additionally, B. lata has long been confused with Hemitrygon sinensis with its Korean name “Gal-saek-ga-o-ri”, but differs from the latter in having the strong thorns scattered on the tail. We suggest a new Korean name for B. lata as “Kko-ri-ppul-ga-o-ri”.
