초록·키워드
This study analyzed seafloor topography, seabed volume backscattering strength (Sv), and vulnerable marine ecosystem (VME) distribution in a high-seas fishing area of the Southwest Atlantic using commercial 18 kHz single-beam acoustic data collected during 2017–2019. Acoustic data were processed through noise removal, bottom detection, elementary distance sampling unit definition, and spatial matching with bottom-longline VME collection records. Sixteen VME indicator taxa totaling 576.86 kg were recorded mainly near canyon margins, slopes, and elevated topographic features. VME records occurred at depths of 867–3,036 m, while major taxa had mean depths generally around 1,700–1,800 m. Taxon-specific mean Sv values at matched VME locations ranged from -11.17 to -20.89 dB, with frequent values near -15 dB. Relatively high Sv values occurred on elevated topographic features, whereas lower values were observed in deeper canyons and basin areas. Commercial single-beam acoustic data can support exploratory assessment of relative seafloor acoustic conditions and their spatial association with VME collection records. Independent validation using multibeam acoustics, seabed imagery, and sediment samples is needed to identify substrate types and develop quantitative VME habitat models.
