The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of Gyrotonic exercise on sagittal spinal alignment, static balance and gait pattern of female office workers who had a muscularoskeletal pain. The subjects of this study are 18 female among the sedentary workers, whose age range from late 20 to late 30. The exercise program consists of 70min/day, 2 days/week for 8 weeks.
All data were analyzed by paired-t test using SPSS version 21.0, calculated %diff values of before and after the exercise for the difference and signification was set as α=.05.
1. After Gyrotonic exercise, there was no significant differences on sagittal spinal alignments of cervical lordosis angle, lumbar lordosis angle and sacral slope. Thoracic kyphosis decreased close to the standard point.
2. In terms of COP after the exercise, showed decrease in several aspects ; sway distance, total sway distance, sway range, sway area, sway speed and velocity.
3. For differences on variables of Gait, after the exercise, the criteria of step, stride and stride speed however showed increase before and after the exercise but there was no significant differences. Step width showed decrease.
4. After the Gyrotonic exercise, variable of visual analogue scale decreased. Therefore, Gyrotonic exercise affects positively on sagittal spinal alignment in regarding on intensive spine focused exercise. On analysis of exercise dynamics variables, there were effect on static balance and gait pattern with pain decrease. As a result, the Gyrotonic exercise helps sagittal spinal alignment close to the average of spinal curve. At last, significant effect appears on the static balance and the gait pattern.
In a further study, a great quantity of researches on spinal alignment are necessary in regards of the Gyrotonic exercise as a spine - focussed-exercise. Not only office workers, COP of the static balance but also various dynamic variables should be studied.
