The Mediating Effects of Hope in the Relationship between
the Career Interrupted Women’s Perceived Career
Barriers and the Career Preparation Behavior

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of Hope on the relationship between the Career Interrupted Women’s Perceived Career Barriers and the Career Preparation Behavior.
The subjects in this study were 400 selected Career Interrupted Women located in Busan, South Gyeongsang Province. After a survey was conducted, the answer sheets from 311 respondents were analyzed. The instruments used in this study were a Career Barriers scale, the Career Preparation Behavior scales and a Dispositional Hope scale. The collected data were analyzed by a statistical package SPSS 21.0. The statistical data on the variables were obtained, and correlation analysis was made. And bootstrapping was used to check the significance of the mediating effects.
The findings of the study were as follows:
First, the Career Interrupted Women’s Perceived Career Barriers had a negative correlation with Career Preparation Behavior. The Career Interrupted Women’s Perceived Career Barriers had a negative correlation with Hope. And Hope had a positive correlation with Career Preparation Behavior.
Second, as a result of analyzing the mediating effects of Hope on the relationship between the Career Interrupted Women’s Perceived Career Barriers and the Career Preparation Behavior, Hope indicated to be fully madicated.
This study is of significance in that Career Interrupted Women’s Perceived Career Barriers are negatively correlated with Career Preparation Behavior but using Hope can improve Career Preparation Behavior. The findings of the study were discussed in association with those of earlier studies, and the implications of the study for counseling and education were described as well.
Finally, limitation to the current study and recommendation for future research were discussed.
