Purpose : In this study, we attempted to explore in depth the qualitative approach to the experiences of the mother of ADHD children receiving medication and the implications of their experiences. In addition, the purpose of this study is to find out what nursing care needs to be provided for the mental health of mothers of ADHD children receiving medication and to provide appropriate nursing interventions.
Method :In this study, the mother of ADHD children who received medication, experienced what they had experienced, understood the meaning of the experience, and explored the conflicts about drug treatment in depth and understood as a whole context. This is the qualitative study using the narrative inquiry method of Connelly and Clandinin (1990).
Result : Through interviews with children with ADHD children receiving medication, the following five results were obtained. "The difficulty of continuous drug treatment", "Lack of cooperative relationship between ADHD child''s mother and teacher", "Mother''s hope through drug treatment", "The beginning of delayed diagnosis and unwanted treatment" to be. These results should identify what nursing care needs to be provided for the mental health of the mother of ADHD children and provide appropriate nursing interventions.
Conclusion : Mothers of ADHD children wanted information on drug therapy and needed coping strategies for lack of partnership with teachers in schools.
Therefore, education should be provided for mothers of ADHD children receiving medication. In addition, a program is needed to promote communication and understanding between the school and its parents in order to cooperate with teachers in the school life of ADHD children.
