In recent years, the role of public library has advanced from an educational space into a cultural center of local community. Accordingly, the study seeks to find the characteristics of spatial configuration in the recent libraries, using the method of user behavior investigation on the selected public libraries. In advance of the investigation, the study reviewed preceding researches and make a general view on the selected libraries. After the investigation, the study analyzes the relationships of the user behavior and spatial qualities of libraries. The findings emphasize two major spatial changes. One is that the chosen libraries had experienced the functional alteration in spatial configurations from data-centered to user-centered. The other is that they had reflected the cultural requirements of the local residents in their spatial composition. The study expects to be used for an architectural planning and further research of public libraries.
