This dissertation aimed to study on the theory of realistic poetry in the 1930's. In particular, I focused on the dispute over what is called short-epic.
In chapter 2-3, I scrutinized the dispute over short-epic developed by Kim Ki Jin, Kweon Hwan, and Im Hwa erc.. Their discussions made a great contribution towards the thesis of the theory of Realistic Poetry in the 1930's. especially, Kim's theory of short-epic, Kweon's theory of conceptual narrative poetry, and 1m's theory of objective figuration without the poet's sentimentality called what poetry should do in connection with the popularity of the arts into question, made poets think what they should take a view of their social realities.
In chapter 4, I verified the theory of Realistic Poetry in the 1930's, centering around Kim" Kweon, and 1m's theory. Thus, I pointed out that the theory of realistic poetry in the 1930's distorted the pursuit of realities by splitting the relation of subject-object in half. In particular, it made a error that it belittled the importance of symbol and figure.
Consequently, the theory of realistic poetry in the 1930's failed in the pursuit of realities.
