The performance of a heat pump unit is estimated using a test facility known as heat pump calorimeter to acquire data such as reliability, capacity and efficiency in order to rate and certify the heat pump unit. Standard test conditions obtained from domestic or international standard organizations are used during the testing, rating and certification of the heat pump unit. The calorimeter require energy through refrigeration and electric heating during the testing period. Reducing the energy consumption of the calorimeter is significant for energy and cost savings. In this study, a newly designed calorimeter is used to test the performance of a water-to-water heat pump unit. Tests were conducted in heating mode with variation in capacity of heat pump unit.
