This study examines how ESG institutional pressures in global supply chains affect the ESG response strategies and export performance of exporting SMEs. Based on institutional theory, ESG pressures are classified as regulative, normative, and cognitive, and response strategies as adaptation, minimal compliance, and differentiation. Survey data from 89 Korean manufacturing SMEs were analyzed using factor and moderated regression analyses. Regulative and normative pressures increased the adaptation strategy, regulative pressure increased minimal compliance, and normative pressure increased differentiation, while cognitive pressure had no significant effect. Adaptation and differentiation improved export performance, but minimal compliance did not. Adaptation strengthened the effects of regulative and normative pressures on export performance, and differentiation strengthened that of normative pressure.
