Rainfall-induced failures of reservoir slopes primarily manifest as shallow landslides driven by a downward-advancing wetting front and the resulting reduction in soil shear strength. In this study, a physical model test at a scale of 1:25 was conducted in accordance with scaling laws for seepage and rainfall to reproduce the rainfall-induced failure behavior of a reservoir slope. To prevent artificial surface erosion, a fine-mist nozzle system (≤40 ㎛) was used to simulate the rainfall record from the 2020 slope failure at Reservoir A and to evaluate slope deformation and variations in pore-water pressure. The experimental results showed that shallow failure initiated at the lower slope and progressively propagated toward the crest. The failure depth measured in the model soil box was 9.0–11.0 cm, corresponding to 2.25–2.75 m at prototype scale, and showed close agreement with the actual field failure depth of 2.30 m. Furthermore, pore-water pressure peaked just before failure and dissipated rapidly as the soil slid. These results confirm that the proposed scaled model test system reliably replicates the rainfall infiltration and shallow failure mechanisms of agricultural reservoir embankments.
