This study aimed to investigate the sequential mediating effects of mothers' smartphone overdependence and maternal interactive behavior on the relationship between maternal depression and infants' interactive behavior. We analyzed data from 333 mother-infant dyads collected in Wave 2 (2023) of the Korean Early Childhood Education and Care Panel using SPSS 30.0 and Hayes' PROCESS macro Model 6. The results revealed two key findings: First, neither maternal smartphone overdependence nor interactive behavior served as significant standalone mediators. Second, a significant sequential mediation was identified, where smartphone overdependence influenced mothers' interactive behavior, which in turn affected the relationship between maternal depression and infants' interactive behavior. These findings underscore the importance of providing comprehensive support that addresses maternal mental health, digital usage, and the quality of parent-child interactions.
