The study aimed to investigate the effects of a 12-week badminton exercise program on pulse wave-based HRV-index, cumulative fatigue, and physical vitality in female college students. The results were as follows. First, HRV-index increased by 29.36% in the badminton exercise group, showing a statistically significant improvement (p < .001), whereas it decreased by 14.11% in the control group (p < .05). A significant time × group interaction effect was also observed (F = 34.350, p < .001). Second, cumulative fatigue increased by 1.44% in the badminton exercise group, although the change was not statistically significant. In contrast, the control group showed a significant 6.19% decrease (p < .05), with a significant time × group interaction effect (F = 4.216, p < .05). Third, physical vitality increased by 3.45% in the badminton exercise group, but the change was not statistically significant. In contrast, the control group showed a significant 7.02% decrease (p < .01), and a significant time × group interaction effect was observed (F = 11.183, p < .01).
In conclusion, a 12-week badminton exercise program significantly improved pulse wave-based cardiac health and had a positive effect on preventing declines in cumulative fatigue and physical vitality among female college students.
