Purpose : This study examines the historical characteristics and military-cultural significance of Bukh, traditional Mongolian wrestling, during the Mongol Empire.
Methods : Historical literature and document analysis were conducted, focusing on The Secret History of the Mongols and previous studies on Mongolian wrestling, military culture, and warrior physical culture.
Results : Bukh served as a form of warrior physical culture that demonstrated strength, balance, bodily control, courage, and competitive ability. It was also associated with state ceremonies and communal identity during the Mongol Empire.
Conclusion : Bukh should be understood not merely as a sport or military training, but as a distinctive Mongolian martial arts culture reflecting the interaction of nomadic life, warrior values, and communal rituals.
