The feeding habits of Sebastes thompsoni were studied using 280 specimens collected in the coastal waters off Tongyeong, Korea. The total length of the specimens ranged from 11.0 to 28.5 cm. Of the 280 stomachs examined, 195 were empty. S. thompsoni mainly consumed Crustacea, followed by Teleostei. Decapoda and Euphausiacea were the dominant prey items among crustaceans. As fish size increased, the proportion of Copepoda and Euphausiacea decreased, whereas those of Decapoda and Teleostei increased. These results indicate that S. thompsoni is a crustacean feeder and shows ontogenetic dietary shifts.
