The research demonstrates how parenting styles and personal religious backgrounds can affect greatly on building God Image. Although other researches primarily deal with relationship of parenting style, this study focuses on the factors of the God Image building, and how much these factors influence.
The participants of the research was high school christian students-402 students located in 8 different cities, ie., Seoul, Daejeon, Kwang-ju, Pusan, etc, in South Korea. After the surveys about how parenting styles and religious backgrounds affect on making God Images, I analyzed the data through the Co-variance Structure Analysis Method and Amos 4.0 statistics program. The results are as follows:
1. Personal religious backgrounds and parenting styles influence as a causal relationship in building God Image and this is accounts for 36%.
2. Father's parenting style is .15, mother's parenting style is .23, and the religious background is .49, which indicates personal religious backgrounds influence more than parenting styles in building God image.
3. Parents' parenting styles influence God Image building in the order of affection, achievement, rationality, and autonomy. In establishing God image, direct effect of a mother's parenting style is bigger than that of father's, and indirect effect of a father's parenting style is bigger than a mother's religious background. However the parenting style of a mother is bigger than that of father's in sum of effects.
4. Personal religious background influence God Image building in the order of conviction of salvation(.48), experience of conversion(.44), attendance for worship service(.25), accepting time(.25), parents' faith(.13), and gender(.04). This result reflects that the personal religious experience influence God image making more than parents' faith.
