The 『Eunmunpungwol』, compiled by Lee long-lin, is a collection of the Eunmunpungwol works that are a parody of Chinese poetry written in Korean letter. It was published in 1917 on purpose to promote the education of both language and industry of Korean people. Through the publication of it, he seemed to pave the way for his desires, one 'Korean-promoting campaign' and the other 'native produce-promoting campaign'. His thought like this may be related to Park Eun-sik, the author of the 『Hanguktongsa』.
He had three examiners for collecting the 1,474 Eunmunpungwol manuscripts sent in for the prize from allover the country. This system of judging committee was established as a tradition, and showed up again in the article of 'Hangeulpungwol' on the 《Dongailbo》, a daily newspaper in 1939.
In the 『Eunmunpungwol』, the applicants were in concord with the examiners, using a variety of born and bred words and symbolic words that are onomatopoeia and mimesis. Also, they expressed the fitting contents for the themes.
This 『Eunmunpungwol』 is thought to be very precious in the light of showing the aspects of language-literature lives of 1910s' people. Especially it makes a precious material to the study of dialects. It reveals their common senses and a grounding in the language and literature as well.
In conclusion, the 『Eunmunpungwol』 carried out its historic mission by attaining its original goals, 'the promotion of the women's and laborers' learning and knowledge'. In praperation for the near future when the Eunmunpungwol mode is revived, the dictionaries of the words stemming from Chinese, the born and bred words, and symbolic words need equipping imminently. And such a policy that the theories and works of Eunmunpungwol should be introduced in the texts of students would rather be set.
