This thesis is to clarify the origin type and the developed type of the Korean Trickster tales, making Tiger tales main object of study which come within the category of the Korean Trickster tales. By doing this, some contribution would be given in elucidating the questions brought up in relation to the genre setting of the Korean Trickster tales.
Tiger tales is divided into two groups to the result of task solution; <task-failure of its solution>, <task-success of its solution>. Based on a viewpoint of Development psychology, the tales belong to <task-failure of its solution> that shows characteristics of pre-made-up period can be defined as <origin type>, the tales belong to <task-success of its solution> that shows concrete made-up period can be defined as <developed type>.
Based on the degree of socialization in the side of development, <origin type> is classified into <blockhead> type, <developed type>, <tricker> type. The aspect of protagonist' socialization in the tales belong to <origin type> is unbreakable from self-centricity. He can't break from it, even though he has broken from it, goes backward again, and in competition his lower level of recognition is disclosed. The aspect of his socialization is breakable from self-centricity. In these tales, he has a emotional relationship with others, doing a heroic behavior to settle some problem, and even plays a role of excellent, professional mediator as half-god.
These arguments discussed above support the inclusion of <blockhead> type and <tricker> type in genre setting of Korean Trickster tales. It is clear that the blockhead Tiger is <origin type>, the tricker Tiger is later <developed type>, and their relationship is in order and in turn.
Therefore, making the blockhead, Tiger and the tricker, Tiger arranged symmetrically into two axis, between them, various Trickster tales can be positioned.
According to this method, the Trickster characters, Rabbit, Bugaboo, Quail, Fox, Kim Seon-dal, Jung Su-dong, and so on will be positioned somewhere between the two axises. Genre setting of Korean Trickster tales is supposed to be done by the two symmetrical axises, <blockhead> type, <tricker> type.
