High-rise housing are often associated with high-density that makes people's relationships superficial, specialized, instrumental and impersonal. Many design professionals have advocated the importance of socializing between human beings as a means to cultivate neighborliness but have not explored any substantial spaces embodied in a highly isolated dwelling unit of high-rise housing. Previous studies found evidences that increased level of social interaction is fostering more feeling of being safe. However, it is not well-known whether increased feeling of safe and secured environment brings more frequent neighboring or social activities to high-rise residents. For that purpose, this research intended to investigate the interrelationship between these two concepts. A linear regression analysis found that the effects of
feeling safety and securities do appear to be very great on the facilitation of socializing between neighbor residents. From another standpoint, the study suggested that public spaces should be carefully located and designed to promote social activities by providing such intermediate devices as sports facilities, play ground, and rest place for residents.
