I have researched the Chosun people's understanding of Ching Dynasty through Kim, Chang-up's diary called Yeon-hang II-gee, in which we can read Chang-up's ideas on the Chosun Dynasty's dress and ornaments. Chang-up came from one of best politically represented families of the time and he was also a disciple of Song, Si-yeol who was a great philosopher and politician. Si-yeol proposed to conquer the North toward China and drive away the Ching Dynasty. Chang-up was also touched by the doctrinal faction of Song, Si-yeol and his followers and their viewpoint about the culture of the Ching Dynasty. Therefore Chang-up's diary offers a well-informed source of material for researching the Chosun people's idea of the Ching Dynasty. We are able to find several Chosun people's ideas about Ching as a result of their dialog with the Ching people in his writings. Chang-up only shared conversation with the highbrow Chinese Han people about what they thought about the Chosun system of dress. Conversely, he did not share these views with the Chinese Manchurian people. We also could read that he intended to show them that he wanted to build a belt of sympathy for the Chinese Ming people and their culture. In addition, he wanted to build a belt of antipathy about Ching between Han's and Chosun's intellectual through the system of Chosun's attire by telling them that Chosun succeeded to the system of Ming's attire which was forbidden to Han peoples. On the other hand, there was an irony associated with his conversation. For example, he used the term "Isn't my clothing funny?" to focus their attention on the Chosun system of dress. He tried to show them this appearing self-conceited and to dignify of Chosun, who followed the Chines dress system. This was a symbol of Chines Culture that the Han people lost their Confucian property when under the control of Manchurians therefore we could read his Chinesim seen through the system of dress and its ornaments. Through the description of the dress system which appears in Kim, Chang-up's Yeon-hang II-gee, we are able to examine the true character of traditional dress system which was established in the later period of the Chosun Dynasty. Therefore the true character of Korean traditional clothing is the production of Chinesim as the crystalloid of Confucian Culture which succeeded to the system of Ming dynasty.
