This research attempts to summarize existing studies on the political history of Koguryo Dynasty, and explores tasks for further study. For the most part, this research is centered around the political system of Kygoryo Dynasty.
I have broken down Kognryo's political history into three periods in this research: (1) Early Period (birth of the dynasty and the establishment of early political system); (2) Middle Period (establishment of a centralized authoritarian system as the political system was progressed); (3) Late Period (aristocratic political system as the political system transformed and collapsed).
Studies of the Early Period are divided between the Pu(部)-Political System thesis and the Early Authoritarian System thesis. Middle Period studies have focused on the progress of the political system toward a centralized authoritarian system. For the Late Period, the operation of the political system by aristocrats and the causes of Kognryo Dynasty's demise have been the major subjects of study.
