For the purpose of environment-friendly development on the inside slope of Sea Dike filled by the sand dredged in the sea and protecting the slope from exterior instable causes, bioengineering protection techniques were planned. Engineering properties of fill material and the characteristics of slope seepage, stability and erosion were analysed through laboratory test and theoretical analysis on the site. Consequently, some bioengineering methods with the consideration of slope failure pattern were applied in the test site.
The embankment slope filled by the sand dredged in the sea was stable itself, but the surface slope in the bottom was failed due to erosion caused by runoff water which infiltrated in the slope surface. In the result of simulated rainfall test, the main element to control the erosion for short period was not the vegetation species and cover ratio, but the surface soil stabilizer. According to the monitoring result of the test site, it was observed that the applied bioengineering methods were effective to control the erosion and stabilize the slope. In the earlier stage, cover ratio of vegetation was the highest in foreign grasses, but it became nearly the same as other species, such as domestic and local, in process of time.
