The purpose of this study is to review the current studies of the semantic interpretations of complement clause based on syntactic approach and formal semantic approach, and to analyse the dynamic interpretation of complement clause. It is reviewed that Comp is not a feature of the verb and does not license trace of subject unlike inflectional elements, and the temporal relations between tense markers in matrix clause and tense markers in complement clause, i.e., backward shifted reading, simultaneous reading, and forward shifted reading can be interpreted dynamically. For example, the sequence-of-tense phenomenon is exemplified by the fact that John said that Mary was sick can receive an interpretation in which the time of John's sickness is understood to be simultaneous, shifted, and inclusive with the time of John's saying. In this study, it is argued that verbal aspect of intensional transitive verbs, tense, explicit temporal adverbs, and contextual information can determine the semantic interpretation of complement clause definitely.
