Let's assume that music videos give ascetic satisfaction to their viewers. It is not just because music videos filled with instantly changingimages satisfy the aspirations hidden in their sub-consciousness, as many western scholars have long argued. This misconception about music videos originated from the western style of reasoning, which places a great emphasis on narrative. Narrative is the outcome of the cause-and-effect type of reasoning, a traditional way of thinking in Western world that always tries to link Incident A with Incident B through cause and effect. From thisperspective, it is natural to conclude that music videos, which do not have an obvious cause-and-effect relationship but are simply filled with fast-changing images, do not show little logical linearity.
This paper analyzes two music videos and confirms that the effect of images in music videos, which sometimes reinforces or even replaces narrative, can be maximized by making a contrastbetween yin and yang continuously No wonder that you encounter the yin-yang order or the interrelated structure in music videos more frequently than the narrative order or the cause-and-effect relationship. The lines between the beginning, main body and conclusion become blurred while the cyclical contrast between yin and yang reinforces itself under the interrelated structure. Therefore the images in musicvideos are not necessarily correlated based on cause and effect. Rather, they are harmoniously interwoven with one another in line with the yin-yang principles.
