An experimental study of the heat pump system using R-22 and R-290 is reported. The experimental apparatus was constructed to investigate performances heat pump system using a horizontal smoothed tube and grooved inner tube. The test sections were made of the tube-in-tube type heat exchanger, consisting of a concentric tube. Heat transfer measurements were performed in smooth tube with inside diameter of 10.07 ㎜ and out side diameter of 12.07 ㎜ and grooved inner tube having 75 fins with a height of 0.25 ㎜.
The performances were calculated based on the compressor shaft power, volumetric refrigeration capacity, compression ratio, cooling capacity and coefficient of performance. The main results obtained were as follows; The compressor shaft power increases as evaporating and condensing temperature increases. While the compressor shaft power of R-290 is higher than that of R-22 using the smooth tube, the compressor shaft power of R-290 is lower than that of R-22 using the grooved inner tube. The volumetric capacity of refrigeration tends to decreased as condensing temperature increase. The performance of volumetric refrigeration capacity tends to be similar to that of the compressor shaft power. The compression ratios of the system increases as evaporating temperature increases and condensing temperature decreases. the compression ratio of R-22 is lower than that of R-290 in case of the smooth tube and the grooved inner tube. Cooling capacity and coefficient of the performance increased as evaporating temperature increases and decreased as condensing temperature increases. Whereas cooling capacity of R-290 is similar to that of R-22, coefficient of performance of R-290 is the highest.
