Heat exchanges are gradually degraded due to deposition of cruds, which thereby gets to be an additional thermal resistance in heat transfer, and a deterioration associated with erosion-corrosion, fretting-wear and low or/and high cycle fatigue following long-term operations. In the nuclear power plants, it is required that the performance of the heat exchangers is continuously monitored during operation in accordance with regulatory guides, industrial codes and standards. In this study, a development of procedure for performance evaluation of heat exchanger and fluidelastic instability analysis of tube bundle is carried out. To assure the integrity of heat exchangers, a procedure to determine the acceptance criteria for operating condition against the thermal degradation in terms of fouling is also introduced. Additionally, a practical application is conducted to the heat exchange of component cooling water system(CCWS) in Kori Unit #2. In the results, the heat removal capability in 1988 is 13,488 KW, which is about 113% of the design heat removal capacity. Meanwhile, the stability ratio (v_c/v_g) is 0.77, which is conservatively obtained from fluidelastic instability analysis, less than critical stability ratio of 1.0. In conclusion, the maximum acceptance flow rate based on the stability ratio of 0.77 is determined as a value of 14,654 gpm, which is about 125% of the design flowrate for heat exchanger.
