The reason why the queen In-Soon became involved in the politics can be found in her situation that she had to protect kings as a queen, king's mother. Her involvement in politics has two aspects, one as an official regent, the other as a queen and king's mother. Although she became the official regent as she accepted the request of the subjects, not all the subjects gave their approvement. Nevertheless, there was an implicit approvement from the side of the literati forces who wanted to secure their political position with help of the queen In-soon. The queen had intention to manage the political situation peacefully by accommodating the literati forces' demand of eradication of old politics and establishment of new one.
The unofficial involvement of the queen in politics had been made as a queen to help the king, her husband, and as king's mother after her regency. She used her position as the queen to support her husband Myongjong when he tried to consolidate royal power and status, and acted the role of kingship when her husband had troubled. After her retirement from the regency the queen remained in the politics as she tried to influence the king's policies.
She appointed her relatives in the major offices and used them to achieve her political aims. She also acknowledged the literati forces as co-rulers and tried to get support from them as they had extended their political power under her protection.
Although the queen's involvement had been based on the support of her relatives and the friendship with the literati forces it proved that the strong power of the relatives, their acquisition of wealth, their political struggle with the literati forces reduced her role in the politics. Having experienced the negative effect of the queen Moan-lung in previous period, the literati forces had not gave the full support to the queen In-soon's involvement in the politics. In spite of these limits, we can find a historical meaning that her involvement in the politics had a role in the making of the literati forces politics.
