This paper attempts to excavate the regional industry with potentials and competitiveness as a matter of strengthening the competitiveness of Pusan regional industry and at the same time revitalizing Pusan industrial structure. Also, emphasizing the support side for regional industry development of the public sector, the second aim of this paper is to explore the relations between public infrastructure and Pusan regional industry. Besides, this paper identifies what factors and aspects of urban infrastructures are substantially meaningful to the encouragement of Pusan regional industry.
The analysis of Revealed Regional Comparative Advantages (RRCA) index, employed for the study of the relative competitiveness of Pusan regional industry, shows that only 9 out of 23 manufactures has comparative advantages. The major findings based on shift-share analysis, used for examining the shift trend of Pusan regional industry, indicate that among 23 manufactures in Pusan, only 2 (publishing, printing and recording, and electrical-machinery and converters N.E.C.) of them have positive effect of both industrial mix and regional share. Finally, empirical results have shown that the variables representing water service, pavement, and telephone, of the variables used to denote public infrastructure, were found to be positively associated with Pusan regional industry.
