Since the early 1960s, the government has tried to increase the portion of planned location in the total industrial land. Until now, the role of planned location in Korea economic development is tremendous. However, footloose location increases rapidly along with government's deregulation policies in land use control, recently. The increase in footloose location has bring about policy problems.
As the local autonomy is getting established, the role of local government in overall industrial location policy is changing in Korea, and then most of local people and governments take growing concerns on inviting more manufacturing firms, recently. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to review regional economic performance resulted from planned location and footloose location in Korea and Chung-Buk region, and to investigate the implications of their policies which can be applied into Chung-Buk region.
Major contents of this study are as follows ; ① Trend of industrial location and economic performance resulted from planned location and footloose location in Korea and Chung-Buk region. ② Estimate demand for industrial location and characteristics based on Chung-Buk region. ③ Direction of industrial location policy based on Chung-Buk region.
