The evolution of methods used in the analysis and planning of transport systems over the past two decades has been marked by significant advances in travel demand forecasting. Despite the fact that supply analysis is an important part of most transport planning and policy analysis, relatively little attention has been paid to supply side of transport. The supply side of transport systems has been treated in a fragmented way in the context of current state of art.
Thus the purposes of this study are 1) to understand the concept of transport supply in ways which allow one to predict the effects of changes in that transport system ; 2) to identify several distinguishing features of transport system ; 3) to conceptualize performance function. These motivate the development of analytical framework for supply-performance-demand equilibrium and the potential areas for future research on supply side of transport.
