The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the village types by the classification process of the rural village, and to analyze the existing public facilities in the rural villages. The rural villages(Ri) in the 5 rural areas(Myun) is surveyed as case studies. The results of this study can be summarized as follows :
First, four main factors, such as population and density factor, land use factor, public facility factor, commercial facility factor, are to be emerged by factor analysis. The environmental and functional features of rural village can be explained by those factors. Secondly, the five types of rural village, which have the differential characteristics each other, are identified. So it is needed to prepare development strategies based on the rural village type and its characteristics for the differential rural village planning. Finally, most village has the village hall, the aged's house, church, rice mill, bus stop. Through regression analysis, variety of living space is explained by village size, variety of working space by both population shift and village size. And the number of commercial space is explained by both population shift and housing density.
