Ecovillage is urban or rural communities of people who strive to live a sustainable, satisfying lifestyle in harmony with each other, all other living beings and the Earth. The purpose of this study is to suggest planning direction to ecovillage as alternative techonology for residental development. It focuses on the planning methods through case study and survey with experts and residents of ecovillage. The results of the study are summarized as follows ; Frist, conditions of ecovillage is philosophy of the nature, community, and techonology for sustainable development. And types of ecovillage are divided in construction and production methods. Second, case study developed about 20 indicators and 6 types of the residential building for planning of ecovillage. Third, the demand of ecovillage will increase significantly in the near future for residental development. Thus, it should be accomplished by preparing practical planning direction. Fourth, for the desirable ecovillage development, single family detached home, about 300 ㎡ lot, and 20~50 units cluster patterns are necessary. Fifth, this study suggest that important indicators for planning of ecovillage is about 11 important indicators and important residential building of ecovillage is mud-block type among the 6 types of the residential building.
