Pastoral care is naturally focused in the "cure of soul." Couldn't we earn some kind of new and essential insight about it from Karl Barth who was the greatest theologian in Reformed tradition? My paper started with that agony. At last, I discovered that Barth himself had the same thirst for the cure of soul. I became to have confidence that his masterpiece, Church Dogmatics, especially "Reconciliation," could be a cherish seed in digging up the source in the perspective of Doing Theology.
So I looked into my paper systematically in the following perspectives. When Barth told about the cure of soul, what did it mean? When Barth told a vision to build the healing community, What was the role of it? That structure consists of gathering, upbuilding, and sending church to cure the wounded souls. Today, these three kinds of ministries can also adapt in the field of Doing Theology very specifically. Especially, I understood that the dialogue between the pastoral theology of Hiltner and the ministry of K. Barth could develop in so many parts in the future. And I noticed that three functions as healing, sustaining, and guiding could be evolved to psychotherapy, pastoral counseling, and spiritual direction.
Undoubtedly, the "cure of soul" ministry is the flower of K. Barth's Doing Theology in Reformed pastoral tradition. We should not repeat to overlook or underestimate it because of being prejudiced against K. Barth that we had heard. "Cure of soul" ministry that Barth had put his whole heart through his lifelong time! Putting our flag at this site, we must embrace the newly opening world of Doing Theology. Then, our Reformed theology will serve this world more essentially, more meaningfully in terms ofthe praxis.
