Korea civic groups have historically had a strong influence in political public affairs and have received significant for their achievements. Under the new administration, Korea is currently experiencing a new shift in its democratization. As the country is moving toward more democratic governance from authoritarian regimes, civic groups in Korean society meet new challenges.
In order for us to fully understand the history of public policy in Korea, it is necessary to study the basis of civic organizations including NGOs. This will also help us to better understand the forces driving contemporary social and political contours in Korea. The article explores issues related to civic organizations. These issues include the following elements: characteristics and achievements of NGOs, statistical information, and strategies employed in public policy by civic organizations. Furthermore, this article will outline future goals of NGOs for assisting a democratic transition under the new presidency.
