This study was to investigate the reasons for the stresses of the athletes who attended middle schools, concerning the types and kinds of sports. Participants in the study was a total of 276 who was male, attended middle schools, and are participating as athletes in the types and kinds of sports under the organizations of the Korea Athlete Association. Test sheet, which was used in measuring the level of stresses on the athletes who are attending middle schools, was first developed by Kim Byung-Jun(1999) and then reorganized by An Jeong-Deok(2003). The level of the stresses of the athletes was calculated on the basis of the types and kinds of sports, the result was as follows.
1. The athletes's fears for failure in sports did not show significant differences in the kinds of sports, but in types of sports there were significant differences in which direct sports (involving physical touches) were higher than parallel ones (not involving physical touches).
2. The athletes' concerns about academic achievements in school and anxiety about competition had not significant differences among the kinds of as well as the types of sports.
3. There were not significant differences among the kinds of sports in anxiety about admission to the upper school, but there were significant differences among the types of sports in which direct sports were higher than parallel ones.
4. For the economical burden on the athletes in types of grouped sports, direct sports were higher than parallel ones.
