China is a place consisted of the people of various regions and different traditional languages, so that, seeking after a common verbal/written languages, there have been a complicated policy which can not easily be imagined by the men in the sphere of relatively unitary culture. Since the first foundation of 'the Committee for Reforming Chinese Characters', on 2 May, 1952, the necessity for simplifying Chinese character has been suggested, its methods as well as the scope of applications discussed.
The learning of Chinese goes on with the simplified character. Most of the Chinese texts set up the purpose of promoting learning effect by contrasting the simplified with the traditional complicated character. This essay is to analyze and clarify the main principles of composing simplified character, those dominating the process of making simplified character, and to form the basis for effectual learning of Chinese.
On the basis of three General Diagrams for Simplified Character[revised edition]『簡化字?表(修?版)』, we set up just two types in large, relatively more distinguished in the 482 simplified characters presented in the first and the second diagrams and sorted them out to each type, as an experimental study to induce consistent composing principles of characters which apply to them The third diagram is excluded in this analysis, as there is no difference in the principle of composition between the simplified and the complicated character.
In conclusion, the essay is to review, in the point of composing principle of Chinese, the 'components of the simplified character contrasted with the traditional complicated character. and to find a possibility to classify and to analyze definite types which show the process of development of simplified character, referring to the bilateral function of reading and meaning elements, Its ultimate purpose is to raise learning effect of the simplified character, as well as coping effectively with the requirements for synchronous learning of both, the complicated and simplified character, which is increasing day by day.
