From the Korea’s liberation of 45 years of Japanese colonial rule to the present analysts say there are still various practical problems in the history of Korean craft art in spite of remarkable achievement in couple of areas. Among those, putting undue stress on histories of ceramics and metal craft is considered the most urgent problem that needs improving in order to paint the whole picture of Korean art history as well as the reality of existing particulars but generals and to restore historical facts. The rest of the areas beyond ceramics and metal craft have been the subjects of study even less one time for the last 60 years of research. If left unchecked, the situation can be even worse including the possibility of diminishing research environment.
Along with the process of forming the art history, the climate of considering the ancient times as the period of classic, valuing it as an important subject of study and viewing comparatively the post- Joseon Dynasty period based on the ancient times shows the limitations influenced by Japan’s historical views thai lowered the stature of Joseon Dynasty so as to build the cause of its colonial rule. If the problems stem from the viewpoint of orientalism, there is no time to waste.
Above of all, establishing original paradigm in the history of Korean craft should be considered first, Comprehensive recognition of art should also be tried by nurturing the study areas focusing on materials, changing the single-track trend of studying the history of craft and engaging and communicating with related studies. This presumption cannot be denied as various aspects of the history of craft are closely interlinked. For this, it is cross joint and interests among detailed majors in the same areas as well as among genres in the history of art that are needed.
