Modern art can be said as an art of expressing individuals free will and the self. The tendency has been reflected in applied art as well as fine art. Especially, textile art has traditionally been regarded as a suitable form of expressing various feeling of touch and communicating visual meaning, ther by satisfying people's physical and mental needs. As the scope of fine art has been continuously extended and diversified, today's textile art became recognized as one field of formatire art, just beyond being entitled as practical art. And, given that it has greatly influenced people's ordinary life, it is thought to bear a great importance in art and design. Today's textile market seeks creative and artistic design that can reflect the need of contemporary generation. Textile market has experienced a great change in its materials and fabrication technology and even now the change is under going. Now textile art designers are endeavoring to discover now materials and develop differentiated designs and products that can satisfy the ever- Changing needs and desires of consumers. Based upon the background in textile market and design history, this study examines a graffiti technique as one of textile designs. Graffiti is a picture an a wall and is regarded as an antisocial and anti-authoritative behavior. It represents a social problem caused by devastated and over-populated city circumstances and has continued to serve as a tool of expressing political and social anger and resentment of lower class people. Graffiti is best suited to freely reveal individual's thoughts and mind without relying on any form and techniques. Textile design using graffiti technique puts an emphasis on humanity, increases human communication, thus contributing to building psychological and emotional sympathy. And it helps to provide the pleasure of association with represented objects and reveal different regional and cultural contexts beyond monotonous and all-the-same designs, consequently facilitating to express a variety of graffiti patterns and aesthetic characteristics. It is expected valuable artistic presentation sources and gave more value in applied textile design.
