This essay studies Park. Kyung-ri's well-known novels - 〈The Daughters cf a Pharmacist Kim(김약국의 딸들)〉. 〈A Seasonal Fish Market(파시)〉. and 〈Market and Theater of War(시장과 전장)〉. The final aim of this study is to discover the point of view to study Park. Kyung-ri's novels over all from her early novels to last novel. 〈the Land(토지)〉. To achieve the end. this essay studies the problem of value which repeatedly appears in Park. Kyung-ri's novel in connection with character's identity in these three novels.
In Park's novels. it is important how to cope with the problem of value. Three aspects of dealing with the problem are discovered in Park's novels - To absolutize the value. to indifferenciate the value. and to diversify the value. The characters who absolutize the value of one thing is isolated from the reality. and whose identity is fixed. The characters who indifferenciate the value is opposed to the first type of character. This type of character pursues exchange value and sexual desire without moralㆍsocialㆍcultural judgement. So. the character confronts the crisis of identity. In Park's novels, the identity of this character is denied (or unfixed). Through this character, the consciousness of reality criticism of writer is represented. The third type of character is compared with the first type of character. The characters who diversify the value pursue new value facing the reality. The identity of this character is produced. In contrast with the first type of character isolated from the reality, this character finds the others and participates in the reality.
These three aspects of dealing with the value and the relationship with the character's identity is discovered in most of Park's novels. So, the viewpoint of this essay could be applied to study Park's novel over all.
