Analyzing the growing process of cities, most of researchers have tendency to do their studies only with numerical results by using statistical data. It is difficult to understand the spatial change only with numerical analysis. This study mainly purposes on helping easier understanding of changing process of urban growth with visual measures, and Suweon City was observed for it.
The result of the analysis is as follows; it was observed that the population and the housing district were increasing in the contiguous and outer areas of the Central Business District whereas the agricultural district and the forests and fields were decreasing in the same area, so the city area was sprawling out into the outer areas of the CBD. Especially the axis of urban growth of Suweon City was found out that it was directed from north en west into southern east.
In the point of view in ages, the 1960's can be called as a preparation stage in which the basis of urban growth was established, and the 1970's can be called as a settling stage of urban growth in which the population was concentrated and densified, and 1980's can be called as a maturity stage of urban growth in which the population was distributed and the housing district was sprawled out into the contiguous areas of the CBD, and lastly the 1990's can be called as a sprawling stage of urban growth in which the population and the area of the housing district was increased into the outer area of the CBD and the agricultural district and the forests and fields were decreased.
